UNDERSTANDING 11+ PREPARATION and beyond

This year 2024-2025, Medway have changed the style of English test from a writing task to a comprehension and SPaG test.

We are saddened to see the loss of creative writing and will still be offering children a chance to hone this incredibly important and fulfilling skill. However, adaptations are being made to our core classes to ensure that all children get enough practice in the English skills that are being tested.

The other papers and the weighted marking scheme remain the same with further details coming in May as per the admissions scheme found here: https://www.medway.gov.uk/downloads/file/8535/secondary_admissions_scheme_2025_to_2026

Regardless of how an exam paper is formatted, maths is maths, language is language and logic is logic. We’re confident that our teaching process (which is not based on exam cramming), will prepare children in a comprehensive way to pass any test, no matter what the brand or style.

In our annual talk with Daisy Learmond, we offer an overview of the 11+ examinations and discuss the specific requirements and differences between the Medway and Kent tests. We offer a holistic approach to learning and use this talk as an opportunity to give general advice about how parents can support their children during this preparation period. Questions are welcome.

This event will mostly benefit parents of children in school Years 4 and 5, but parents of children in other year groups are welcome too. The talk is free of charge but you will need to reserve a place. Next date TBC.
